THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (2006)
Will Smith and his real-life son, Jaden, star in this true story of a struggling single dad, Chris Gardner, who dreams of a better life for his boy. After finding themselves homeless, Chris risks everything when he lands an unpaid internship at a stockbrokers that has the potential to change everything.
MRS. DOUBTFIRE (1993)
Mrs. Doubtfire, an eccentric Scottish nanny, is played by the late Robin Williams in this hilarious but heartfelt tale of just how far a father will go to care for his children.
FINDING NEMO (2003)
This Disney classic follows an anxious clownfish, Marlin, on his 1,5000-mile journey across the ocean to find his young son, Nemo, who was taken by scuba divers.
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (1989)
It’s impossible to get bored while watching the swash buckling Harrison Ford and Sean Connery embark on action-packed search for the Holy Grail.
STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980)
Many say this is the best movie of the franchise. Luke confronts Darth Vader and hears the iconic line that tells the truth of his past: “Luke, I am your father.”
ON GOLDEN POND (1981)
Henry Fonda plays a miserable old man called Norman Thayer who spends his summers at a home on Golden Pond. His estranged daughter (Jane Fonda) chooses to stay with her family to mend her relationship with her father before it’s too late and she has any regrets.
THE KID (2000)
Russ Duritz (Bruce Willis) gets the shock of his life when a young boy, who resembles his childhood self, appears mysteriously. So, he ventures on a journey to confront his past and make amends in his present life.
DADDY DAY CARE (2003)
A recently unemployed dad, played by Eddie Murphy, capitalises on his newfound freedom and decides to turn his home into a daycare centre for his own son and the neighbourhood kids.
DADDY’S LITTLE GIRLS (2007)
Tyler Perry directed this romance about an attorney (Gabrille Union) who falls in love with a mechanic (Idris Elba), a single father fighting to retain custody of his kids.
THE FATHER (2021)
Anthony Hopkins recently won an Oscar for his portrayal of a man who refuses all assistance from his daughter (Olivia Colman) as he ages and struggles with dementia.
