Powerful monologue on Black excellence, empowerment & unity featured on new Stormzy Single, ‘Mel Made Me Do it’

Stormzy has released a new 10 minute music video to accompany his brand new single “Mel Made Me Do It”.

The track features a powerful & poignant spoken word piece, written by Wretch 32 and narrated by actress and screenwriter Michaela Coel, about Black excellence, empowerment & unity and a nod to those who have paved the way and who continue to pave the way in Black British culture, media and sport.

It begins:

“Today, we speak about foundation. Many great Black influential giants have touched people, from soul to soul, throughout many generations. It’s often ‘greatness’ comes to mind, but footballing legends like make Ian Wright greatness come to sight. Our DNA empowers us. We can make a song and dance out of everything. Our genes are enriched – it seems there is not a seam out of place in our fabric…”

The KLVDR directed video also features some of the most influential Black figures & Black British talent with cameos from Headie One, Ian Wright, Julie Adenuga, Trevor Nelson, Nella Rose, Dave, Zeze Millz, & more.

Roma manager Jose Mourinho also makes a special appearance, as well as Eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt, Louis Theroux and Jonathan Ross.

‘Mel Made Me Do It’ is likely to appear on Stormzy’s upcoming third album, which is rumoured to be released before the end of the year.
