‘Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World’, is an empowering stage show based on a book by suffragette descendent Kate Pankhurst, which celebrates history’s most influential women who have helped to change the world, including Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, Frida Kahlo to Jane Austen, Mary Seacole and Pankhurst’s own relative Emmeline.
The women are all brought to life by an all-female cast and creative crew, including adapter Chris Bush, with direction by Amy Hodge, music by Miranda Cooper and starring Renee Lamb and Christina Modestou to name but a few.
The play follows inquisitive schoolgirl Jade, as she takes a peek behind the scenes at the ‘Gallery of Greatness’ in her local museum, which leads her on a journey of discovery where the incredible women within exhibits come to life as the Fantastically Great Women take to the stage to tell their stories.
“I think if something influences young girls – and boys – in a way that makes them a little wiser, encourages them to question something they see as unfair or sit a little taller in their seat and own their space, that can only be a good thing. The more everyday conversations we can have about this, the more inevitable change for the better will be. It’s loads of pressure to say you can change the world too, but if they leave the theatre feeling empowered to do something more with their talents, that’s a win” – Kate Pankhurst
The show may be designed to appeal to a young audience, with its bright colours and ‘teeny-pop’ music, however, it will certainly educate everyone on these women, the sacrifices they made throughout history, how they contributed to the world today and will hopefully inspire a new generation of women to follow in these pioneering women’s footsteps.
Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World is on tour in the UK until July 30th 2022.
